Victoria Falls · Zimbabwe

A sculpture park and a gift shop above the Falls.

Carved stone standing in the open, and a shop full of beadwork, cloth and carving made by the same hands. Twenty-three artists. Everything here was made by someone with a name. Start by turning the stone.

    Not everything weighs forty kilos.

Beadwork, carving, cloth and jewellery made by the same community that carves the stone. Most of it fits in hand luggage, and all of it pays the person who made it.

Beside Elephant's Walk, a few minutes from the railway station and a short walk from the Falls themselves. Pieces stand outdoors in natural light, exactly as their carvers left them, and someone will walk you round and tell you who made what.
