Stone Sculptor

Springstone, Serpentine
Biography

Edmore Sango was born in 1977 in Chitaunhike village, Guruve, into a family of respected carvers. He is the youngest brother of Brighton Sango, one of the most influential second-generation Shona sculptors, known for a geometric, abstract style.

As a boy he helped polish and finish his siblings' sculptures during school holidays. Brighton began teaching him properly at age eleven and mentored him until his death in 1995. The following year Edmore moved into his late brother's workshop and began carving full-time, carrying that geometric style forward.

In 1998 he was invited by Tom Blomefield to join the Tengenenge Sculpture Community. He has since exhibited in the Netherlands and Germany, receiving merit awards from several of the galleries that hosted him.
